Our family, our business...Where it all began through to present day

Our history

The business you see today began in 1914 and was founded by Joah Exley. The primary focus back then was the removal and refurbishment of steam pipework across the local textile industry in West Yorkshire.

By the 1950s, the company was well established as a specialist in the removal and installation of heavy textile machinery and by the ‘70s, we were installing machinery internationally too.

Some of the very same looms our ancestors moved at the beginning of the century, we have since moved to museums in the Leeds and Kirklees area to be preserved for generations to come.

Present day

Key to the success of J Exley is the strong work ethic, problem solving abilities and pride we take in our work which all began with our founder Joah Exley over 100 years ago.

These principals have been passed down through 4 generations of the Exley family and have allowed the business to expand into the dynamic forward thinking company we are today.

Through investment in plant, technology and our people, we have continued to build on and extend our expertise, now offering a range of services associated with machinery removals, installations and logistics.

Whether it be the project management of a full factory relocation, recommissioning a recycling plant, transporting abnormal loads internally, we can work seamlessly with your team to deliver innovative solutions whatever the challenge.
